NEW DELHI -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday said he hopes Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin will return to Group of 20 participation next year as he prepares to take over the grouping's presidency from India.

Lula said he did not know why Xi and Putin did not attend the India summit. "We will invite them and we hope they participate," he said, speaking in Portuguese.
