SEOUL -- The near absence of women in Samsung Electronics' boardroom has shone a spotlight on the piecemeal efforts to achieve gender equality in South Korea's business community.

Samsung has no women among its internal directors and counts only two among its outside directors. During the annual shareholders meeting in March, all 10 executives who took the stage were Korean men.
