TAIPEI -- Taiwan on Tuesday amended a law to allow same-sex couples to adopt children they are not related to, in a significant shift toward full marriage equality in the Asian democracy.

"This milestone reflects our commitment to democracy, human rights, and equality," said Hung Sun-Han, a lawmaker from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party.
