TOKYO -- India's Samvardhana Motherson International, one of the world's top auto component suppliers, is working to diversify its presence in the global supply chain beyond automobiles, its chairman told Nikkei Asia.

The company, also referred to as Motherson Group, is named after the relationship of its founders, current chairman Vivek Chaand Sehgal, and his mother. It entered the auto supply chain in 1983 by providing wiring harnesses to Maruti Suzuki, India's largest automaker by sales.
