Hong Kong police arrest veteran journalist over 'seditious material'

Journalism school consultant Allan Au detained in dawn raid

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's national security police on Monday arrested veteran journalist Allan Au for allegedly producing and publishing seditious material, a police source said, drawing criticism from press freedom groups.

Au had written articles for the now-folded online media outlet Stand News and regularly published his thoughts and political views on social media. He was also a teaching consultant at the Chinese University of Hong Kong's journalism department and had previously worked for local media, including broadcasters TVB and RTHK.
