HONG KONG -- The trial of Hong Kong media mogul Jimmy Lai Chee-ying reached its 100th day on Monday, with the defendant himself having spent more than a week on the witness stand, shedding light on his international connections ranging from associates of Donald Trump to leaders in Taiwan.
Such connections are at the heart of one of the allegations against Lai: that the outspoken China critic and founder of shuttered news outlet Apple Daily colluded with foreign forces to undermine national security.
