TAIPEI/HONG KONG -- Hundreds of people gathered in Taipei on Saturday to mark the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown of pro-democracy protesters in Beijing, while police in Hong Kong, previously the site of the world's largest candlelight vigil, ensured no commemorations were held.
Taiwanese residents, including recent Hong Kong migrants, gathered at Liberty Square in Taipei marking the 33 years since Chinese tanks rolled into the capital, killing peaceful protesters.
