GUANGZHOU -- Huawei Technologies is cutting about 600 jobs at its U.S. research and development subsidiary. The layoffs will affect about 70% of the 850 or so workers believed to be on the payroll.

The leading Chinese communications equipment maker blamed "the curtailment of business operations" on the U.S. government putting it on the Entity List. Huawei was forced to downsize the subsidiary after this made it difficult for it to do business with U.S. companies.
