GUANGZHOU -- Huawei Technologies will launch on May 19 its first personal computer using the in-house-developed HarmonyOS operating system, with U.S. sanctions having left the Chinese company unable to renew a contract with Microsoft for Windows when it expired in late March.

Huawei detailed the plans Thursday at an event in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, Chinese media report. HarmonyOS already powers the company's smartphones and tablets. The HarmonyOS PC was developed by more than 10,000 engineers over five years, according to Huawei.
