NEW DELHI -- The U.S. government's crackdown on immigrants is casting a shadow over Indian students' plans to study in the country, with many pivoting to colleges in nations that offer a friendlier political and immigration environment.

In recent weeks, the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has carried out arbitrary deportations and revocations of visas, while also threatening university funding.
