MAEBASHI, Japan -- A company in Gunma prefecture in central Japan has found a novel way to attract the best workers from Malaysia, home to a major subsidiary. It is adding halal options to its employee cafeteria, helping people observe their customs far away from home.

The factory in Tomioka belongs to Yokowo, a maker of vehicle antennas and electronics. The Muslim workers at the plant are employees of its Malaysian unit, with around 10 of them stationed there at any given time.
