TOKYO -- Japan outlined plans on Friday to launch a new official Japanese language test for foreigners, part of an overall road map the government is crafting to make it easier for people from overseas to live in the country.

The new test of Japanese language ability could roll out within fiscal 2024. Details about the test remain to be decided.
