Academic life: Haruhiko Kuroda (29)

Kuroda enters academia to share his experience with future generations

After stepping down as governor of the Bank of Japan in April 2023, I began my life as an academic. In July, I became a specially appointed professor at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). I am also a senior fellow at GRIPS Alliance, a research arm of the Tokyo school.

At the recommendation of former GRIPS President Takashi Shiraishi, I decided to engage in education and research after leaving the public sector. I began teaching a class titled "Fiscal and Monetary Policy in a Changing World" in the fall semester, starting in October. In the spring semester of 2024, I will give a similar lecture in English to international students. From January to April 2024, I am teaching international finance and monetary policy at Columbia University's graduate school. I have also lectured at Columbia University, Stanford University and Harvard University since April 2023.
