The Global Financial Crisis: Haruhiko Kuroda (22)

Kuroda heads to Europe, U.S. to gain support for ADB's 200% capital increase

The next pending issue for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under its new long-term strategy, "Strategy 2020," was to increase the bank's capital for the first time in 15 years to raise its support capacity.

For developing countries in Asia, strengthening the bank was a must. ADB directors from Asian countries supported a 200% capital increase. The Australian director agreed, and Masaki Omura, director for Japan, supported a 200% capital increase, exceeding the amount that Tokyo had instructed him to support at the board meeting.
