In the early 1990s, the Cold War ended, offering me the opportunity to experience policy changes in Germany, the former Soviet Union and North Korea.
On July 1, 1990, Germany unified the currencies of East and West Germany at a one-to-one ratio before the country itself reunified about three months later. I spent that day in East Berlin.
