BANGKOK/YANGON -- Younger adults in Myanmar are streaming out of the country as the military sends draft notices in select regions under a conscription law recently put into effect to combat ethnic and anti-regime forces fighting the regime.

The departures have swelled demand for foreign currency, depreciating the prevailing exchange rate of the Myanmar kyat. The resulting inflation is disrupting civilian life and the economy.
