Kirin to sell entire stake in venture with Myanmar military

Facing human rights pressure, Japanese brewery opts for early retreat

Kirin had hoped to continue selling beer in Myanmar after the dissolution of the joint venture, but it was not able to do so.

TOKYO/BANGKOK -- Japanese beverage company Kirin Holdings announced on Thursday that it will sell its entire stake in Myanmar Brewery (MBL) to the company, a joint venture with military-owned Myanma Economic Holdings (MEHL), for 22.4 billion yen ($164 million).

The announcement confirms Nikkei's earlier report.
