BANGKOK/YANGON -- Myanmar and Russia kicked off their first joint naval exercise Tuesday, deepening security cooperation as they grow increasingly isolated from the rest of the international community.

Their forces are holding air combat and live-fire drills in the Andaman Sea, to the south of Yangon, Myanmar state media report. The exercise runs through Thursday.
