Myanmar bans Irrawaddy news site for disturbing 'public tranquility'

Military government had criticized the outlet for past reporting

BANGKOK -- Myanmar's military government has banned and revoked the publication license for The Irrawaddy, the news outlet reported on its website Monday.

The Ministry of Information cited harm to "state security, rule of law and public tranquility" for the move, which took effect last Wednesday.
