BANGKOK/YANGON -- Travel has remained a popular pastime in Myanmar despite years of conflict there, with many journeying to getaways inside the country's borders.

At Ngwesaung, a beach resort township 200 kilometers west of the commercial capital Yangon, every room has been booked in the weeks surrounding the start of the new year, according to a source at a travel agency.
