Myanmar general meets with Japan lawmaker for 1st time since takeover

BANGKOK -- Myanmar's Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing on Thursday met with a sitting Japanese lawmaker for first time since the military took control of the Southeast Asian nation in February 2021.

Hiromichi Watanabe is a member of Japan's lower house and the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. He has served as minister in charge of reconstruction from the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan.
