BEIJING -- Myanmar's military government and armed ethnic groups have formally agreed to a Beijing-brokered truce, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday.

The military and an alliance of three armed groups approved an immediate cessation of fighting and the withdrawal of military personnel. Peace talks were held in Kunming, Yunnan province, in southern China on Wednesday and Thursday.
