BANGKOK -- The latest move by Myanmar's military government to extend the state of emergency underscores its priority of restoring stability by force, intensifying the public backlash in a vicious cycle.
The National Defense and Security Council decided Monday to extend the state of emergency another six months. If the state of emergency had been lifted, the constitution would have required holding a general election within the following six months.
