BANGKOK/YANGON -- U.S. authorities placed Myanmar mobile carrier Mytel on a sanctions roster due to its financial ties to the country's military.

The U.S. Commerce Department added Mytel to its entity list, faulting the company for "providing surveillance services and financial support" to Myanmar's army.
