BANGKOK/YANGON -- While he has never come out and said it publicly, Myanmar military chief Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing has long held a dream of becoming president, according to military officials close to him.

Now, it looks like that dream may soon become a reality as the military-backed party has begun making moves to solidify its position ahead of a general election to be held by August 2023.
