BANGKOK/YANGON -- Myanmar's military government is embarking on a string of new business initiatives with companies from friendly countries, amid optimism from those nations that upcoming elections in Myanmar will offer new commercial opportunities.

On May 29, Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) and Thailand's Gulf Petroleum Myanmar signed the first new natural gas development contract under Myanmar's military government.
