YANGON/BANGKOK -- Myanmar's military government is encouraging its citizens to find jobs overseas, viewing remittances from workers abroad as an important source of foreign currency, as the country has lost foreign investment and international aid since the military seized power in February 2021.

Many young people in Myanmar, disheartened by the military takeover, are seeking jobs overseas, creating an odd confluence of interests between them and the military, which many young people oppose.
