BANGKOK -- Senior ASEAN diplomats have concluded an "extended informal consultation" to seek a solution to Myanmar's protracted crisis by reiterating that the bloc's consensus plan would remain its approach to finding peace in the war-torn country, even though it has delivered virtually no results.

The decision comes as a blow to the military regime in Myanmar, which seized power in February 2021 and has been trying to convince its neighbors to back its proposal to hold elections next year, even though it does not control large swaths of the country.
