NEW YORK -- China hit back at Donald Trump after the U.S. president accused Beijing of exerting "tremendous pressure" on North Korea because of the ongoing trade dispute between the world's two biggest economies.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular briefing Thursday that the remarks made in a White House statement were "irresponsible" and hard to understand. She added that the U.S. should look at itself when it encounters difficulties on the North Korea issue.
