N Korea at crossroads

North Korea plans major military parade for its 70th anniversary

Pyongyang still interested in talking with Washington, South Korean spy agency says

SEOUL -- North Korea is believed to be planning a military parade in Pyongyang on Sept. 9 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the country's founding, South Korea's National Intelligence Service revealed Tuesday.

The North may be planning something on a similar scale to a major parade in February that celebrated the 70th anniversary of its military. It has invited high-level guests from overseas in hopes of boosting the September event's profile, but few appear to have said yes.
