SEOUL -- North Korea is preparing to launch a military reconnaissance satellite with Russian assistance, according to South Korea's National Intelligence Service, which believes that Pyongyang is exchanging military supplies for technological know-how.

The NIS determined that inspections of rocket engines and a launcher have begun recently in North Korea, said a South Korean lawmaker who attended a closed-door briefing with the agency.
