SEOUL/WASHINGTON -- North Korea launched several short-range "projectiles" off its east coast Saturday, the South confirmed, signaling a return to saber rattling now that denuclearization talks with the U.S. are stalled.

The Kim Jong Un regime's move comes just two months after negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump broke down in Vietnam. Pyongyang is under intense pressure, hit by prolonged sanctions over its nuclear weapons program as well as a severe food supply shortage. Trump refused to offer sanctions relief without full denuclearization, and Saturday's launch suggests Kim may resort to further provocations if the impasse drags on.
