SEOUL -- North Korea's military will start working to completely cut off roads and railways connected to South Korea and fortify its side of the border with "strong defense structures," Pyongyang's state-run news agency reported Wednesday, in another step away from reunification.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the Korean People's Army will "take a substantial military step to completely separate" its territory from that of its southern neighbor. The military called American forces Wednesday morning to inform them of the "fortification project" and prevent any accidental clashes, the report said.
