TOKYO -- A group of 16 Japanese young people will sue some of Japan's biggest utilities in court proceedings starting next week to argue that youth has a fundamental human right to be protected from extreme weather and other long-term damage caused by climate change.
The move, the first youth-led climate litigation case in the world's fourth-biggest economy, comes as Japan exits its joint hottest summer on record, tied with that of 2023.
