China formally arrests Japanese man for alleged espionage

BEIJING -- Chinese authorities have formally arrested a Japanese man, an employee of drugmaker Astellas Pharma in Beijing who has been detained since March, on espionage charges, Nikkei learned on Thursday.

China has notified the Japanese Embassy and other institutions. Japan has requested his early release.
