TAIPEI -- Taiwan's political establishment is racing to mitigate the fallout from a wave of #MeToo scandals just months before national elections, as the sexual harassment claims test the island's progressive credentials.

Last week, Taiwan's top envoy to Thailand resigned over claims of misconduct toward his female secretary. It marked the latest in a string of allegations leveled at senior politicians and other public figures, including famous entertainers and artists.
