Thai game 'Corrupt' helps kids think about sensitive social issues

Developer Opendream's apps focus on taboo topics like bribery and sex

The risks of openly criticizing Thai politicians and government employees has not discouraged game developer Opendream's founder, Patipat Keng Susumpow, from tackling taboos.

BANGKOK -- Bangkok-based game developer Opendream is creating games to raise awareness of social issues, helping children think about such sensitive issues as sex and political corruption -- topics that are seldom openly discussed in the conservative Southeast Asian nation.

A gamed titled Corrupt, designed to help players develop a deeper understanding of various issues surrounding corruption, begins with a message telling them they will face many "important choices" as they play.
