SEOUL -- Left-leaning candidate Lee Jae-myung assumed South Korea's presidency on Wednesday, capping a tumultuous six months in the country's politics sparked by the previous leader's chaotic declaration of martial law late last year.

Lee was formally sworn in as president at a ceremony in Seoul on Wednesday morning, pledging to take responsibility for reviving South Korea's democracy. He described the country as being at "a watershed moment" and ahead of a "great transformation."
