SEOUL -- South Koreans began voting for their next president on Wednesday morning in what is likely to be a tight contest between leftist Lee Jae-myung and conservative Yoon Suk-yeol for control of Asia's fourth-largest economy.
The vote is largely seen as a referendum on incumbent President Moon Jae-in, who made repeated peace overtures to North Korea while presiding over a sluggish economy and soaring real estate prices. Moon was not able to run again as presidents are limited to a single five-year term.
