KABUL/NEW DELHI -- An Afghan victory over defending champions England in the Cricket World Cup has brought a glimmer of light to a country stricken by war, poverty and devastating earthquakes, although its fans have been largely keeping their celebrations indoors or online to avoid irking the Taliban rulers.
Afghanistan thrashed England by 69 runs in New Delhi on Sunday, shocking the cricket world as their homeland continued to pick up the pieces from earthquakes that killed hundreds about a week earlier. Afghanistan reached 284 all-out, and bowled England out for just 215.
