TOKYO -- The 2022 Winter Olympics ended Sunday with the closing ceremony at Beijing National Stadium. According to the organizing committee, 2,877 athletes from 91 countries and regions took part in the 17-day event, and about 97,000 people were invited to the competition venues.

The Games were overshadowed by political conflicts that prompted a "diplomatic boycott" by the U.S. and some other Western countries, citing human rights issues in China.
