SEOUL -- An administrative error in Japan could be a catalyst for change in Singaporean soccer. On March 5, Sanfrecce Hiroshima defeated Lion City Sailors 6-1 in the quarterfinal of the AFC Champions League Two, Asia's second-tier club tournament.
However, it soon transpired that Hiroshima had fielded an ineligible player, meaning the Sailors won 3-0 by forfeit. As a result, the team is the first from Singapore to reach a continental Asian final, where it will face Sharjah FC of the United Arab Emirates on May 18.
