TOKYO -- The Japanese Grand Prix kicked off Friday in Suzuka, Mie prefecture, with the Formula One racing event attracting more attendees thanks to the influx of international tourists.

"We're determined for the Japanese Grand Prix to ride F1's global wave of popularity," said Tetsuhiro Joko, marketing manager at Honda Mobilityland. The company operates the Suzuka Circuit venue for the event.
