TOKYO -- The fifth edition of the World Baseball Classic begins on Wednesday after a six-year hiatus, bringing together a constellation of star players from Japan, South Korea and others from around the globe.

Australia, China and Taiwan round out the Asia-Pacific contingent among the 20 teams in the World Cup-style tournament, which also includes baseball powerhouses such as the U.S., Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
