TOKYO -- Sony camera technology will be adopted by the National Football League to measure the yards gained or lost during a play, the Japanese electronics company said Wednesday.

Sony's Hawk-Eye virtual measurement system will be put to use when the NFL regular season starts in September. The tech is owned by the British subsidiary Hawk-Eye Innovations.
