Supply Chain

China, Vietnam truckers turn to relay race to break border jam

COVID-clogged supply chains left drivers camped out for weeks

HO CHI MINH CITY -- Truckers are getting creative to conquer the supply-chain labyrinth that China and Vietnam's border has become, aiming to deliver for clients from Samsung to Adidas.

Trade screeched to a halt in December after Beijing clamped down on the border to shut out COVID. So Vietnamese exporters desperate to offload cargo have driven to the frontier, unhooked the trailers carrying their shipping containers and let semitrucks from China's side complete the final leg.
