TAIPEI -- Taiwanese shoe manufacturers are taking steps to set up production bases in India, as they forge a supply chain less focused on China and perhaps provide a path for electronics giants like Foxconn to diversify away from the country as well.

"We hope this would be the first of many investments to come," George Liu, vice president at Pou Chen Group, the world's largest contract footwear producer, said about entering India during investment talks in the southern state of Tamil Nadu in April.
