TOKYO -- Washington's clampdown on Huawei Technologies will harm American companies, since a sizable number of the Chinese company's suppliers are U.S.-based, Beijing's former commerce minister warned on Friday.

Chen Deming told Nikkei's Future of Asia conference that banning Huawei would also hurt the rest of the world, if doing so undermines the technology supply chain.
