Laos president: Sanctions, embargoes 'will not make world a better place'

Thongloun says his government will not take sides in today's conflicts

TOKYO -- Economic sanctions and embargoes "will not make our world a better place," Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith stressed on Friday, pushing back against Western countries and some of their Asian allies.

Although Thongloun did not mention specific governments or issues, such measures have been deployed against Myanmar's military regime as well as Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
