TOKYO -- Disagreement within Donald Trump's administration over how to handle a strong dollar could strain economic coordination between the U.S. and Japan, and some fear it may even leave Tokyo open to accusations of unfair currency practices like those the new president has lobbed at Beijing.
"We hope to straighten out communication" with the Trump administration on key economic matters including currency policy, Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso told reporters Friday. The minister also called volatility in the currency market "undesirable" -- a nod to the trouble that errant remarks from Washington can cause for the yen.
